The legislature reconvened today, January 3rd, 2024, for the second year of the 2023-2024 legislative session. Bills that stalled in the first year will have an opportunity to continue through the legislative process. The bill introduction deadline for new legislation is February 16, 2024.

Last night, October 13, 2023, around 8:00 p.m., Governor Gavin Newsom cleared his desk for the first year of a two-year legislative session. The Legislature introduced a total of 3,030 bills this year. Of those, Governor Newsom signed a total of 1,170 bills and vetoed 156 bills, having a veto rate of about 13.3 percent.
